Schools

The Transformers Program is targeted at primary school children and aims to: 

  • provide support, drug education and harm minimisation strategies
  • raise awareness in participants of the effects of excessive drug and alcohol use on individuals and families
  • teach self-protective behaviour and resilience
  • help to identify coping strategies both positive and negative already being employed and help to formulate more effective strategies where needed
  • raise self-confidence and self-esteem through participation and interaction in the group setting
  • demonstrate and teaching effective assertive communication and encourage participants to use this form of communication in place of passive or aggressive behaviour
  • introduce effective emotional management primarily for anger and anxiety
  • raise awareness that individual needs are important and how to get those needs met in the context of the family
  • introduce the notion of boundaries and the separation of responsibilities into what the participant can control and what they cannot and
  • offer individual counselling to address specific issues identified in participants

 This program is available through the South Metro Community Drug Service in Mandurah.
