Palmerston recognises that difficulties with drugs and alcohol affect everyone in the community. Families are on the frontline and experience the immediate impact of drug and alcohol misuse.

Palmerston Perth offers one to one counselling, and group support for all family members impacted by alcohol and other drug misuse.

Topics presented for the Family Support Group include:

• Stress - how to recognise and then manage it
• Communication - communication styles, listening skills, roadblocks to effective communication, fair fighting, dealing with negative emotions (guilt, disappointment, shame)
• Creating balance in our lives and self care
• Drug information night - what is on the streets and other information
• Guest speakers - including staff from the Farm Therapeutic Community to discuss the program; Parent Drug Information Service (PDIS) speaker presenting on 'Drugs on the Street'.

The group provides a safe and confidential space and will assist you to gain skills and strategies to help your family in a constructive way.

The information session about the residential program is delivered weekly and lasting for about an hour. If you have a family member interested in the program, family members are encouraged to attend the information session with them. We also have family counselling available for families affected by drugs and alcohol.
