Counsellor/Educator (AOD)

Part time ongoing contract (4 – 5 days per week)


Palmerston Farm is a 24/7 residential treatment service for people affected by alcohol and other drugs, located on a 10 acre property in Wellard, 30 minutes south of Perth CBD.  Our 43 bed facility offers medium to long term care based upon the therapeutic community (TC) model.


A therapeutic community is an environment in which the community itself, through self-help and mutual support, is the principal means for promoting personal change. Residents and staff participate in the management and operation of the community, contributing to a psychologically, culturally and physically safe environment where change can occur. Within a therapeutic community there is a focus on social, psychological and behavioural dimensions of substance use, with the use of the community to heal individuals emotionally, and support the development of behaviours, attitudes and values of recovery.  This is known as the “community as method”.


This is a rare opportunity to join a team of experienced colleagues in a supportive and culturally secure environment. The successful applicant will provide a professional alcohol or other drug (AOD) service, providing counselling and support to clients, families, other service providers and the local community in a culturally secure way.

Previous experience with working in a therapeutic community is desirable although not essential to apply.

The position is classified at Banding Level 4, Social and Community Services Award dependant on level of skill and experience.
