In July 2022, Palmerston entered into a partnership agreement with MIND to deliver AOD support to clients within the new residential Transitional Care Unit (TCU) based in Victoria Park, Perth metropolitan.  We are currently looking for AOD Lived Experience (Peer) Workers to join this new service and team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Saint James Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is a residential service providing support for up to 20 clients, aged between 18-64 years, experiencing mental health issues delivered in partnership with East Metro Health Service networks, MIND Australia and Palmerston.   The service is recovery-focused and person-centred which is a fundamental shift away from treating symptoms to coaching people to develop a life with meaning and purpose for themselves.  Clients will be focussing on individual recovery goals to support independent living, work and/or study.  It is recognised that some clients will have a range of co-occurring issues with both mental health and AOD challenges.

We are currently looking for two AOD Lived Experience (Peer) Workers to join our team.  This role will work collaboratively as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team at the St James Transitional Care Unit (EMHS).  This position provides Lived Experience expertise for clients through a person centred, recovery-focused and trauma-informed approach, for clients and carers experiencing AOD concerns. They are integral team members of the TCU service and are expected to be actively involved in and contribute to the client’s care and ongoing journey.

To be considered for this role you will have a Certificate IV in Peer Work, at least two years’ experience in working within the AOD and mental health sector as a peer.  You will also have a strong understanding of Trauma Informed Practice principles and experience to evidence this in day-to-day professional settings.
