Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention
The Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coordinator program is funded by the Mental Health Commission and works with the Commission to deliver on the priorities of the WA Mental Health Promotion, Mental Illness and Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Plan 2018-2025.
The Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coordinator program aims to prevent the uptake of drug and alcohol use and delay the age at which use begins by working alongside the community to raise awareness of and address the risk and protective factors associated with AOD use. The program uses a harm minimisation approach to increase the awareness of and to support evidence-informed prevention and intervention activities in the community, working to create long-term change across the lifespan of the population.
Whilst the program does not provide a clinical service, we work to educate on and promote the services provided by Palmerston and other relevant stakeholders, and to raise awareness of and build the capacity for community members to link in with Palmerston, alongside other local support services, when concerns around AOD arise.

Suicide Prevention
The Suicide Prevention Coordinator program is funded by the Mental Health Commission and works with the Commission to deliver on the priorities of the WA Suicide Prevention Framework 2021-2025.
The Suicide Prevention Coordinator based at Palmerston acts as a central point of communication to assist community and service providers by supporting, developing, and promoting initiatives that improve wellbeing, prevent suicide, and support the needs of people impacted, affected or bereaved by suicide.
Whilst the program does not provide a clinical service, we work with the community and with service providers to build capacity to prevent and respond to suicide and suicide bereavement through training and service coordination, community engagement and support, resource and information development and sharing, and service linkage across the Great Southern region.
