Residential Services

Palmerston offers two residential services: one in a semi-rural location south of Perth and the other in a small town in the South West.

Both residential rehabs operate as therapeutic communities (TC), which means the program is designed around a community-based approach. These settings provide a calm, supportive environment where you can participate in a structured program. Residents work together as a community, supporting their own recovery and each other’s.

People seeking to enter our residential TC cannot be granted bail or parole specifically to attend. Instead, they must first secure bail or parole to a suitable location, after which they can begin the pre-entry process.

Supporting Aboriginal residents

The Farm TC is located on Nyoongar Whadjuk land. Our Kwinana Elders have shared that the land in Wellard was once traditional hunting grounds, but it doesn’t contain specific traditional sites such as men’s or women’s business.

Beela Valley TC is situated on Pinjarup country.

How do I access the program?

Information Session
To enter the residential rehabilitation program, you must first attend an Information session at either the Perth or Bunbury office (details provided below).

No appointment is necessary – just come along. You’re welcome to bring a support person with you.

Individual Assessment
After attending an Information Session, you can book an individual appointment to start your assessment for entry to the program. The assessment is tailored to meet your individual needs, ensuring you get the maximum benefit from participating in the therapeutic community program. Because of this, the assessment process may vary in duration and approach for each individual, with the average time for assessment being two hours.

Information Sessions are held every week:

Wednesday at 10.00am – Perth Office, 17 Oxford Close, West Leederville (note this is our new office location)
Wednesday at 10.00am – Bunbury Office, Lotteries House, 99-101 Victoria Street, Bunbury

For all matters regarding residential rehabilitation, please contact our Perth or Bunbury office.

Pre-Entry Group

The pre-entry group is only available for clients who have completed an assessment for entry into residential rehabilitation.

Bunbury – Wednesday at 11:00am (in person, by invitation only)
Perth – Thursday at 10:00am (in person, by invitation only)

The group continues to assess your readiness, commitment, and willingness to fully engage in the program. It gives you the opportunity to:

Discuss your circumstances and what’s happening for you
Explore your reasons for entering the program
Set goals to prepare for entry
Practice sharing in a group setting
Connect with others who are also preparing for the program

Oral Health program

Oral health is fundamental to overall health, wellbeing, and quality of life. Many of our clients report dental pain, or embarrassment regarding their smile, often covering their mouths when they talk. Palmerston are addressing this through providing dental care to our residential clients via weekly clinics in partnership with St. Partrick’s Community Support Centre, Fremantle. Please note: The Oral Health program is only available to our residential clients.

Transitional program

After completing the program at our residential services, you’ll have access to three transitional houses located in the southern metropolitan suburbs of Wellard, Leda, and Palmyra. These beautifully furnished homes provide a safe, short-term independent living option for those at risk of homelessness, with support from Farm TC staff. You’ll receive help with independent living skills, reintegration into the community, and support in finding suitable long-term housing.

Make Smoking History

Palmerston’s Beela Valley TC is working in partnership with the Cancer Council of WA to make smoking history.

How do I get started?

To make an appointment you can call any of our branches. You don’t need a referral and it’s free. Appointments are usually about an hour long. Evening or Saturday morning appointments are available at most branches.

We are not an emergency service. If you are hurt, or worried about someone’s safety, or you need immediate support please call 000 (Ambulance, Police, Fire Brigade) or present to your closest emergency department.
