What is Family and Domestic Violence?

Family and domestic violence (FDV) involves a pattern of abusive behaviour used to control another person in a close relationship. This includes:

  • Physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, or financial abuse
  • Coercive control, stalking, threats, or intimidation
  • Abuse by a partner, ex-partner, family member, or carer

FDV can happen to anyone and often occurs over time, creating fear, harm, and long-lasting impacts.

If you’re unsure whether what you’re experiencing is FDV, you’re not alone. Please reach out to our team or any of the services listed above — we are here to help.

How can we help?

Palmerston, in partnership with Kadadjiny Aboriginal Corporation, is delivering the Central Great Southern Women’s Refuge — a safe and supportive space for women, with or without children, who are experiencing or at risk of family and domestic violence (FDV).

The refuge provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive care that recognises the complex links between FDV, alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, and mental health. Our tiered model of support acknowledges that healing is not linear. We walk alongside each woman, offering flexible, person-centred care through every stage of recovery.

At the core of our service is Immediate Crisis Support. This includes emergency accommodation for up to five women, risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis counselling — all delivered with dignity and respect.

Our dedicated response team is available seven days a week to provide rapid and compassionate assistance when it’s needed most.

This integrated approach aims to reduce barriers, avoid fragmented care, and create a healing environment that promotes connection, safety, and long-term recovery.
