Supporting Our Youth – Connecting to Country
Palmerston and our project partner, deliver youth engagement activities in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. The project targets Indigenous youth at high risk of disengagement from education and employment. Participants may be referred to the program through a variety of pathways, including local Indigenous Elders. Key activities include:
- Weekly ‘Bush Classrooms’, designed with input from Indigenous Elders and includes one-on-one engagement with youth engagement workers.
- informal counselling, holistic support and community engagement activities
- capacity building job-skills development workshops focused on engaging Indigenous youth in training and employment opportunities, delivered in partnership.
This will assist marginalised youth at high risk to develop life skills to prevent them from becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system and to promote inclusion and build community resilience.
