Palmerston is pleased to announce important updates to our Constitution, following a resolution passed by our Board of Directors at a Special General Meeting on July 20, 2024. These updates are designed to reflect our evolving mission and commitment to addressing the broader needs of individuals, families, and communities impacted by alcohol and other drugs.
Why the Change?
Our previous constitutional object was centered around “addictive behaviours,” a term which no longer aligns with contemporary language or the expanding focus of our work:
Palmerston is established for the purpose of providing services to prevent or reduce the harm related to addictive behaviours for the individual, the extended family, and the community.
As we continue to adapt to the changing needs of the community, it is essential that our guiding principles reflect an inclusive, forward-thinking approach. While Palmerston’s core work remains focused on alcohol and other drugs, we are increasingly addressing underlying causes and promoting overall wellbeing for those we serve.
Revised Constitutional Object
Our updated constitutional object reflects this broader scope:
Palmerston is established to provide services to address the underlying causes of, and the wellbeing and betterment of, individuals, families, and communities affected by alcohol and other drugs.
This revised object aligns with our commitment to creating lasting positive impact, providing a stronger foundation for our work.
Other Objects Remain Unchanged
The two additional constitutional objects, which uphold Palmerston’s charitable status, remain unchanged:
- Palmerston may collaborate with individuals or organisations that share similar objectives, fostering partnerships that enhance our impact.
- Palmerston’s property and income shall be dedicated solely to advancing our mission. No resources will be distributed to members except in good faith for promoting our objectives.
These updates reflect Palmerston’s dedication to a more inclusive and comprehensive approach, empowering us to continue making a positive difference in the lives of Western Australians.
